LED Buyer’s Guide: High-Bay Luminaires

High-Bay lights are widely used for illuminating indoor spaces with high ceilings (20 to 45 feet approx.). They are strong and powerful lights that are typically mounted to the ceiling or ceiling girders with a chain, pendant, or a rod.

According to the top commercial lighting manufacturers, high-ceiling areas like manufacturing plants, warehouses, big departmental stores, factories, etc. have wide spaces to fill in. They require an interior lighting solution that can illuminate the whole area uniformly, deliver sublime performance, and efficiently meet all the safety standards. Thus, LED High-Bay lights emerge as a natural fit for such commercial areas.

High-Bay luminaries furnish wide and uniform light distribution while ensuring minimal amount of glare. They are incorporated with aluminium reflectors that direct the light in a downward direction and aid in delivering a more diffused light. However, there are a various factors that people need to consider before buying High-Bay luminaires. Some of them include:

1. Ensure a correct fit

As per the lighting experts, most of the LED High-Bay lights contain several light emitting diodes soldered to a printed circuit board (PCB) that is typically integrated in the housing. This makes the quality of the LED lighting fixtures an important determinant of the light’s performance and life. Thus, it is essential for people to decide on a luminaire that fits with the fixture properly.

2. Look out for Wattage and Lumens

Wattage is a determinant of the power consumed by the light while lumens refers to the brightness levels achieved by the device. LEDs are energy efficient devices that require less wattage. Thus, people are suggested to make choices over the lumen levels rather than wattage. According to the leading LED lighting manufacturers, an LED High-Bay luminaire of 10,000 to 15,000 lumens is ideal for spaces with ceiling height ranging between 10 to 15 feet. Similarly, lights between 16,000 to 20,000 lumens are considered apt for ceiling heights between 15-20 feet.

3. Look out for designs and other features

LED High-Bay luminaires are available in various designs and with various features. For instance, Wipro Lighting offers a wide range of High-Bay luminaries in various shapes including linear, square, capsule and radial. Thus, people are suggested to look out for several design options before selecting the most suitable one (in terms of aesthetics).

Traditionally, people never questioned the build quality of the luminaires as they used to replace the light in a shorter time span. This was the primary reason why people gave lesser attention to the lighting fixtures and housings. However, the introduction of LED luminaries has changed it all as it provides people with an essential long life benefit.
